March 12 is a Holy Day of Obligation in my faith, the day when Charlie Parker passed away in 1955, and this year I’m commemorating the occasion and the great continuous genius of Bird with an episode of the radio show from Eat at Jo’s in Amsterdam with a trio of special guests from America: Zach, an artist and educator from outside of Washington DC by way of Firenze, Italia, and B.B. and Jackie from Baton Rouge. B.B. plays a lot of harmonica for the timeless blues pianist Henry Gray and follows the Wild Indians from the corner of 2nd & Dryades on Mardi Gras Day. All of our music today is from the Charlie Parker archives, including his pivotal 78 rpm singles for Savoy and Dial records between 1945-48 and our old closing theme, from the immortal Charlie Parker with Strings sessions for Clef Records in 1950-51.
