Back in Amsterdam for the early summer, I celebrated by putting together a radio show with Sidney & Joeri out on the sidewalk in front of the Hempshopper at the top of the Singel canal, featuring some brief conversation and recordings gathered on my recent travels in New Orleans—the Nightcrawlers brass band, Brother Tyrone, Voices of the Big Easy, and Felice—and in Detroit: M.L. Liebler with Robert Jones, Sadiq Bey & his Berlin-based project called Schwartzegeist, and the Pinkeye Orchestra with a number I just recorded with them in April. The show ends with a tiny salute to the late, great Eddie Bo, the Godfather of Funk, who passed away in New Orleans earlier this year.
