I’m celebrating my father’s birthday today—Jack Sinclair, born in Kinde, Michigan, October 25, 1910—he would’ve made 99 years old today! Juan Carlos Hearn, Artist in Residence at the Bohemian National Home, is riding shotgun with me so I can grill him about his gigantic “Heritage of the Future” mural under construction at Michigan Avenue & Wesson on the west side of Detroit, and we listen to music by Professor Longhair, Muddy Waters, Johnnie Bassett, Little Walter, Parliament, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, an entire set by the Moonglows, and songs by Little Richard and Shirley & Lee in tribute to the late, great drummer/arranger/producer Earl Palmer, also born on October 25 (1924). The New Orleans Jazz Vipers come in to close out the show with me.
