Insomnia Radio
In less than two years from its inception, Massy Ferguson has earned a name for itself locally and internationally. They have garnered local attention locally with KEXP Radio (Live Room, Aug. 2007), Disheveled Magazine (May 2006) and internationally with Radio Golden Flash (Belgium) and Insomnia Radio (Live in the Lounge, October 2006). The Live in the Lounge session featured a 55 minute acoustic performance which was podcast to an audience of nearly 80,000 subscribers to Insomnia Radio. They recently released the Live In the Lounge session as an 8-song EP.
In that time, it has also picked up a few nicknames, “The People’s Band,” “The Hardest Sweating Band in Showbiz” and of course, “Massy F***ing Ferguson.” These monikers seem fitting for the band’s blue-collar approach to writing music and their rowdy live performances. The four-piece embraces the reputation, the adulation, the screaming fans … who wouldn’t?
Massy Ferguson represents a fresh take on traditional American roots music. Tracing their influences to alt-country and American southern rock, the band has put together an impressive list of songs and shows in just under a year, keeping true to old musical pioneers while forging their own path.
Born as a side project of two established Seattle bands, Fragile Jack and Vast Capital, Massy Ferguson made a name for itself early by recording a 5-song EP with local producer Geoff Ott at London Bridge Studios (Pearl Jam, Blind Melon). The result is a warm recording of songs that can be described, as one magazine put it, “unappologetic rock americana for the mases.”
Though relatively new, the band is entrenched in the Seattle roots music scene, playing alongside acts such as The Dusty 45s, North Twin, West Valley Highway, The Souvenirs and Jeff Fielder at key venues such as The Tractor Tavern, Chop Suey and The High Dive.
