Our Joint Production with Matt Kalinowski’s Subterranea show on KCSN-FM continues for a second hour from the campus of California State University-Northridge. After the opening musical selections by Jim Carroll, Rufus Harley, and the Charles Mingus Orchestra with “The Shoes of the Fisherman’s Wife Are Some Jive-Ass Slippers,” and a couple of conversations with Matt, Michael Simmons breaks out his guitar to make the music for my two poems played “live” on the air, and we close the episode on the topic of New Orleans with a pair of Dr. John classics from Gris Gris Gumbo Ya Ya, his first album in 1968 for Atco Records.
