Larry Hayden and I started our broadcasting day very early for a couple of nite owls with a fore-noon trip to the 420 Café to meet my homeboys from Oxford Mississippi, Justin Showah and Eric Deaton, touring in France with Afrissippi and taking advantage of a 6-hour layover in Amsterdam to pop into the city and visit with us and cut a radio show together. The music is selected from Justin’s Hill Country Records album roster and includes cuts from Eric Deaton’s albums Gonna Be Trouble Here and Smile at Trouble, the Afrissippi albums Fulani Journey and Alliance, the Taylor Grocery Band Archives collectively titled Honky Bucket, Volumes 1-5, plus a “live” cut with Eric Deaton from the Starkville (MS) Theater earlier this year, and a closing number by the Taylor Grocery Band with Jimmy Singleton, Dave Easley & their band 3 (Now 4) from New Orleans, on the Thacker Mt. Radio Show in Oxford. Yeah you rite, fellas!

On the second Thursday in February I had the honor of appearing as a guest on the greatest “live” radio show in the world, Thacker Mountain Radio, produced on-stage this week at the Lyric Theatre in Oxford, Mississippi, hosted by Jim Dees, and anchored by the house band, the Yalobushwhackers, featuring Jim Dickinson on piano, Duff Dorough on guitar, Slade at the bass and Wallace Lester on drums. Jim’s other guests were Alicia Romano & Dirty Flowers and the local heroes known as the North Mississippi All Stars, and I had the privilege of Eric Deaton on lead guitar. The show was broadcast on Rebel Radio at the University of Mississippi and beamed out around the state on Mississippi Public Radio. Now celebrating its 10th year on the air, Thacker Mountain Radio continues to showcase the indigenous music and literature of Mississippi and guest artists from around the world every Thursday at 6:00 pm, usually from OffSquare Books in Oxford.

When I was in Oxford, Mississippi for my annual residency at the Two Stick sushi restaurant and music emporium with Chad Henson and Allison Borders I enjoyed a rare opportunity to play a show with my Mississippi Blues Scholars at the splendid State Theatre in Starkville on a Tuesday night. Nobody came, but we made some nice music with Eric Deaton on guitar, Justin Showah on bass and Tyler ____ on drums. I recorded our performance on my little digital machine and offer it here as this week’s episode of the John Sinclair Radio Show. The poems are all taken from Book One: The Delta Sound of my blues work in verse titled Fattening Frogs For Snakes

Amsterdam, nl.
