Out of the Vintage Radio Vaults at Radio Free Amsterdam comes this never-before-aired program called the Crescent City Special with John Sinclair created for WGBH-FM in Boston by John Sinclair & Keith Keller at Chez Flames studio in New Orleans on October 31, 1992 with “live” recordings by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Re-Birth Brass Band, the Wild Magnolias, Shirley & Lee, Buckwheat Zydeco, Earl King, Jon Cleary, Professor Longhair, Champion Jack Dupree, Snooks Eaglin, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Fats Domino, Rockin’ Dopsie & the Twisters, Johnny Adams, Ernie K-Doe, The Meters, and the Olympia Brass Band.

Tonight’s edition of Sinclair On The Air is a two-hour exposition of the music of the great New Orlean pianist, composer and producer Allen Toussaint, hosted by John Sinclair & filmmaker Stevenson Palfi on WWOZ-FM in New Orleans on January 9, 1999 and reproduced here thanks to David Kunian, who found the program in his audio files and shipped it over to me in London. Featured are recordings mostly written and produced by Toussaint on Lee Dorsey, Al Tousan & His Wild Sounds of New Orleans, Fats Domino, Ernie K-Doe, Jessie Hill, Chris Kenner, Benny Spellman, Irma Thomas, Otis Redding, Art Neville, The Showmen, Willie Harper, and Raymond Lewis. The Sinclair On The Air show is heard every Saturday night at midnight over Salto Wereld Radio-99.4 FM and Cable 104.6 as a service of Radio Free Amsterdam.
