Sinclair on The Air is beaming out from the guest apartment above the Hash Marihuana and Hemp Museum on the Achterburgwal canal in Amsterdam where I’m in residence this week and still looking ahead to Mardi Gras in New Orleans with music by Deacon John, the 6th Ward Big Shots with James Andrews &#038; his brother Trombone Shorty, the Bayou Renegades, 101 Runners with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, the New Orleans Nightcrawlers with Big Chief Smiley Ricks, Barry Kaiser &#038; Chris Polachek, Walter &#8220;Wolfman&#8221; Washington &#038; the Roadmasters, and Dr. John with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, plus a long cut from the recording sessions I made in London last week with the aggregation I call John Sinclair &#038; Beatnik Youth, and a new Radio Edit of the International Blues Scholars on “We Love Big Chief” from the LET’S GO GET ‘EM album forthcoming from Mo-Sound Records in Detroit. The Sinclair On The Air show on Saturday nights from midnight to 2:00 am on Salto Wereld Radio-99.4 FM is now off the air until further notice and can be heard here on Radio Free Amsterdam and on Detroit Life Radio every Sunday at 4:20.

This edition of Sinclair On The Air is the second installment of a two-hour exposition of the music of the great New Orleans pianist, composer and producer Allen Toussaint, hosted by John Sinclair &#38; filmmaker Stevenson Palfi on WWOZ-FM in New Orleans on January 9, 1999 and reproduced here thanks to David Kunian, who found the program in his audio files and shipped it over to me in London. Featured are recordings written by and mostly produced by Toussaint on Benny Spellman, Lee Dorsey, Devo, the Pointer Sisters, Allen Toussaint himself, Oliver Morgan, Larry Hamilton, Wallace Johnson, James Andrews, Sister Teedy, Toussaint with Professor Longhair &#38; Tuts Washington from the Stevenson Palfi film Piano Players Rarely Ever Play Together, the New Birth Brass Band, and the Wild Tchoupitoulas. The Sinclair On The Air show is heard every Saturday night at midnight over Salto Wereld Radio-99.4 FM and Cable 104.6 as a service of Radio Free Amsterdam.
