Villazomerlust
Sunday, February 13, 2011 @ 11:00-12:00 am [20-1107]
Eck en Weil, NL.

I’m broadcasting this Sunday morning from a venerable farm house called Villazomerlust in the tiny village of Eck en Weil, about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam, the home of Philippe Pfeiffer, my host & bandleader for last night’s concert at the Divina Commedia in the village of Maurik, Holland and my special guest for this program of music from New Orleans, London & the Netherlands including a pair of cuts from Dr. John & Donald Harrison as well as the Doctor’s beautiful reading of “Indian Red”; a new version of “History 101” by John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars with Elliott Levin on tenor saxophone and text by Charles Neville, recorded at the Obama Inauguration Day party in 2009 at the Café Oto in London; a prime collaboration between Trombone Shorty & Big Chief Peppy of the Golden Arrows; a set of original Dutch blues songs by Philippe’s band, J. Palthe & Friends from their albums A Good Reason and It’s Blues Time; a commentary on village life by Sonny Boy Williamson; and a musical valentine in the form of a brand new recording from the Studio Zen sessions of the International Blues Scholars with Vincente Pino on guitar. Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!
