Famous Coachman was one of Detroit’s leading blues disc jockeys from the mid-1970s until his death near the end of the 20th century, hosting and producing his Saturday night Blues After Hours show from 2:00-5:00 am and then adding a gospel segment and going from 2:00 until 6:30 am with Blues & Music After Hours on WDET-FM, Public Radio in Detroit. Recently a Coachman fan,“DJ in Mt. Clemens,” sent me a batch of Coachman cassettes he’d taped off the air, Mike Boulan converted them to digital sound files and I’ve edited them into three one-hour episodes for the Vintage Radio Vault. This is the third installment with music by Joe Hunter, Albert Collins, Louis Jordan, Nolan Strutt, Clarence Carter, and several contemporary blues numbers by a series of Unidentified Artists.

BARTENDER’S BOP 04
John Sinclair & Tom Morgan
Headpress Bunker, London, June 24, 2011 [BB-0004]
Tom Morgan’s Bartender’s Bop program series, produced for WTJU-FM in Charlottesville VA in the mid-1980s, features music selected by Tom Morgan from the glory days when Rhythm & Blues ruled America. The series has been reconstructed, reprogrammed and hosted by John Sinclair for Radio Free Amsterdam, and this week’s episode features classic tunes by Big Joe Turner, The Platters, Billy Ward & the Dominos, Nervous Norvus, Gene McDaniels, Wynonie Harris, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, Louis Prima and a whole bunch of artists we haven’t been able to identify yet. You could call this a Joint Production and you’d be absolutely right. Bartender’s Bop plays on Radio Free Amsterdam every Saturday at $:20 & thereafter.
