Our Radio Free Amsterdam krewe returned to The Dolphins after a prolonged absence to make a show featuring ‘live’ music by Massachusetts bluesman Jon Short, whom I’d met last month when we shared the bill at several little blues festivals in Italy. He was resting up in Amsterdam before returning to the States and we took advantage of him with several of his numbers and a duet with the poet recorded in the lower lounge area of the coffeeshop. Radouane helped us with the Opening Tokes, and we heard records by the ReBirth Brass Band, Roy Brown, Professor Longhair, Smiley Lewis, John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars, Andre Williams, James Andrews, and Irma Thomas.
