Jazz Roots #8 opens up with the Mezz Mezzrow-Tommy Ladnier Quintet featuring Teddy Bunn on guitar, Pops Foster on bass and Manzie Johnson on drums, finishing up their set from episode #7. Teddy Bunn get a solo guitar showcase with recordings made in 1940, now on CD from RST/Jazz Perspectives, and the balance of the program is devoted to the great Lil Hardin Armstrong & Her Swing Orchestra on Decca 1936-38, featuring stellar musicians like Buster Bailey, Prince Robinson, Wellman Braud and Manzie Johnson. Jelly Roll Morton steps in with the theme music to close the show.
